Training courses
I am happy to offer training in breastfeeding and tongue-tie to healthcare professionals, and breastfeeding supporters. I have provided webinars for GPs on breastfeeding and tongue-tie, training for breastfeeding supporters, Midwives, Health Visitors and Paediatricians on tongue-tie and breastfeeding training for childrens centre staff. I have attended the UNICEF BFI ‘Train the trainers’ course in the past and have taught courses for midwives and health visitors in Trusts working towards accreditation with the BabyFriendly Initiative.
I have several one and two hour presentations already prepared or I can put together sessions to suit individual needs.

The next one 8 November 2024 Ely, Cambridgeshire
Topics to include:
Identification and assessment of tongue-tie in infants
How tongue-tie can impact on feeding
Lingual frenulum anatomy and implications for practice
Management of babies with tongue-tie
Strategies for helping mothers feed tongue-tied babies
The role of bodywork.
Myths and controversies including lip tie, speech difficulties and airway issues.
Please note that the diagnosis of tongue-tie is a medical diagnosis and as such only a registered healthcare professional properly trained in tongue-tie assessment and division should be diagnosing tongue-ties. Assessment and division is outside of the scope of practice for IBCLCs.
Given that IBCLCs hold the highest recognised qualification in lactation it follows that breastfeeding counsellors, peer supporters, doulas, sleep coaches and others should not be assessing or diagnosing tongue-tie. Another factor to consider is where is the accountability? If a registered healthcare professional makes a mis-diagnosis there are clear pathways for parents to raise concerns and have these dealt with. This is not the case for un-regulated practitioners.
This study day will equip you with the knowledge to identify the feeding difficulties and tongue functional deficits which may be linked to tongue-tie so you can make appropriate referrals to a tongue-tie service.
The study day will be held at Ely Museum in the centre of Ely, Cambridgeshire. The venue is 10 minutes walk from Ely Rail Station which has direct links to London Kings Cross, Norwich, Peterborough, Ipswich, Leicester, Liverpool, Derbyshire, Birmingham, etc. Parking information can be found here https://www.eastcambs.gov.uk/parking/car-parks-ely
